It's been TWO years!

My last post as Semper Gumby was on October 11, 2011. That was TWO YEARS ago! What on earth has happened to time? I'm not so sure but I've been itching to get back to it. I'm excited to get back to the world of blogging!

I can't wait to tell you about what I've been up to and what I have going on!

Support Breast Cancer Prevention Organizations?

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month! If you're in the US, any retailer has a variety of every day items in pink.  Each year, about $6 billion (yes you ready the correctly, BILLION) is committed to breast cancer research.  I hope that this terrible disease is cured and that our mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and ourselves are not affected or threatened any longer.  I've donated money to this particular cause and I am passionate about the pink ribbon but like any other commercialized holiday, I'm getting a bit concerned that it's becoming more about PINK products than women who are experiencing Breast Cancer.

I just caution you to check where you're shelling out your precious dollars to before you hand it over.

Marie Claire agrees...Take a look at this Marie Claire article about this particular topic.

There are scammers that want your money and are disguised as a charitable organization.  They make you believe that you're giving your money (in good faith) to great orgs such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  In reality, the money never makes it there!!
"The names of many breast cancer charities are designed to foll donors into
believing they are bigger and more impressive than they are
."
- Marie Claire Magazine, Oct 2011. P. 158

Marie Claire suggests these well-regarded breast cancer organizations for donors to contribute to.  The following groups spend most of their funds to research and treatment:

  • Breast Cancer Research Foundation
  • Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
  • The University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
  • Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
  • The Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center

Chop Chop my hair!

I am so excited but last week, just two weeks after our wedding, I did what I haven't done since Middle school! I cut my hair up to my shoulders!  I donated 2 inches to Pantene Beautiful Lengths program.  Everybody asks why I didn't send it to Locks of Love (that's another story...) and let's just say that I considered my options.  I was nervous but more than that, I was SO EXCITED to have it go away so that somebody could benefit from it!

My hair is pretty straight, as you can see.  I had them chop 5 ponytails worth of hair off (they need 6 for a wig), and then they gave me bangs!  Then they set me in curlers!!

TADA!

It became a bit of an afro once it dried but I'm loving it and so is my Husband!

Married!

Hi Everybody!

I hope your 9/11 10 year anniversary was full of reflection and pride.  Mine was definitely, despite my exhaustion from the most wonderful 3 day weekend of my life. I am happy to report that on 9/10/11,

I MARRIED THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!

There is much more to come but I wanted to share a picture from our photographer, Susan Solo with you.

You know Jordan from Southern Hospitality! She was at my wedding with her hott Date! See what she thought of the wedding!

Remember when my awesome supervisor and friend, Emily took pictures of our engagement (like the moment Dave popped down on one knee?)?? Emily was also there at the wedding, snapping pictures!

I hope you like the picture.  This is one of my faves that I have seen so far! :)

Love, the new Mrs.
