Support Breast Cancer Prevention Organizations?

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month! If you're in the US, any retailer has a variety of every day items in pink.  Each year, about $6 billion (yes you ready the correctly, BILLION) is committed to breast cancer research.  I hope that this terrible disease is cured and that our mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and ourselves are not affected or threatened any longer.  I've donated money to this particular cause and I am passionate about the pink ribbon but like any other commercialized holiday, I'm getting a bit concerned that it's becoming more about PINK products than women who are experiencing Breast Cancer.

I just caution you to check where you're shelling out your precious dollars to before you hand it over.

Marie Claire agrees...Take a look at this Marie Claire article about this particular topic.

There are scammers that want your money and are disguised as a charitable organization.  They make you believe that you're giving your money (in good faith) to great orgs such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  In reality, the money never makes it there!!
"The names of many breast cancer charities are designed to foll donors into
believing they are bigger and more impressive than they are
."
- Marie Claire Magazine, Oct 2011. P. 158

Marie Claire suggests these well-regarded breast cancer organizations for donors to contribute to.  The following groups spend most of their funds to research and treatment:

  • Breast Cancer Research Foundation
  • Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
  • The University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
  • Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
  • The Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center

  1. According to wikipedia,

"Common chronic diseases include asthma, cancer, diabetes and HIV/AIDS."

So if this this true, then everyone should be aware of the "5 Signs You Might Have a Chronic Disease" written by nanei you can read it at http://healthmattersmostinlife.blogspot.com/2012/01/5-signs-you-might-have-chronic-disease.html

it is better to know before its late.
